Trivandrum

The capital of Kerala is now known as Thiruvananthapuram (I think that's thiruva–nantha–puram). This is no doubt why the question setter chose to give its former (anglicised) name.

'Thiruvananthapuram' means 'the city of Lord Ananta'. Ananta (also known as Anantha, or Anantha–Shesha – shesha being the word for a snake) is the serpent god, revered as the king of all the serpents or snakes, on which the god Vishnu (the 'preserver', the Supreme Being or absolute truth) is sometimes depicted resting. The name 'Ananta' means 'eternal', 'infinite', 'endless' or 'limitless', and is often used to refer to the Lord Vishnu himself.

Malayalam is the language of the Malayali people, who make up 96.7% of the population of Kerala. The word 'Malayalam' is well known to quizzers, and devotees of Guinness World Records, as one of the three longest palindromic words in the English language (along with 'redivider' and 'rotavator').
